Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of land-based winging training?

Land-based training helps you master essential skills and techniques, building confidence before you transition to water.

How experienced is the instructor?

Since August 2023, has the instructor been learning on land, with a mountainboard. Taking long rides from Bloemendaal aan Zee to Ijmuiden aan Zee.

He then learnt Surf Skating for those really tight turns and developing quicker reactions (Nov '23).

On water he moved to Inflatable StandUp Paddel (iSUP, Mar '24), and foil board (Jul '24). He is a beginner here, and feels 2025 is the year to master the foil when the water is warmer.

He has his favourite practise spots for wind direction and water temperature.

As an instructor, his son, and friend have joined for lessons. And a backlog of colleagues, are on the list.

He wants to make some extra cash, whilst he does his own training at weekends, reclaim some of the costs from his hobby.

What should I bring to a training session?

Recommended to bring comfortable warm, windproof clothing, gloves, a warm drink & snack, and a positive attitude. All necessary winging equipment will be provided; or bring your own.

Who is responsible for my personal safety

No sport is without it's risks. During lessons safety equipment is a must, the instructor cannot accept responsibility for any injuries.

With careful, step by step guidance, building of skill and confidence, and the wearing of safety equipment; the risks are lowered.

From his experience:

- head, hips, knees and elbows are at most risk.

Helmet (mandatory)

Elbow pads (mandatory)

Knee pads (mandatory)

Hip pads (recommended)

With the skateboard it is recommended the trainee has some experience beforehand, for more focus on the wing. However, with no skateboard experience at all, the mountainboard is the recommended starting point.

Or, get a cheap one and practise your jump on off / move / stop and turning.

What happens if equipment is damaged?

The trainee is expected to cover the cost of the damaged equipment.

The wing is the most fragile.

Regarding the mountainboards and skateboards, there is a safety limit for your weight.
